At our small fiber farm in Central Pennsylvania, we raise our own Romney sheep and a variety of goats including both dairy breeds and fiber breeds like Angoras for their unique contributions to sustainable living and artisan craft. We chose Romney sheep for their versatile, durable wool that's perfect for handspinning and long-lasting garments, while our Angora goats provide lustrous mohair prized for its strength and shine.
Our dairy goats support our soap-making process with rich, nourishing milk. Raising our own animals allows us to ensure every step , from pasture to product, is done ethically, holistically, and humanely. It's not just about fiber; it’s about fostering a healthy, respectful relationship with the land and animals that support our craft.
Our Romney sheep are a cornerstone of our fiber farm, beloved for their calm nature and exceptional wool. Originally from the damp, rugged coast of England, Romneys are well-suited to our Pennsylvania pastures. Their fleece is long, lustrous, and strong perfect for handspinning, durable garments, and heirloom textiles. We chose this breed for its versatility, hardiness, and the beautiful texture it brings to our handcrafted work. Every fleece we harvest is a reflection of the care and respect we give our animals year-round.
Our dairy herd is made up of a charming mix of Alpine, LaMancha, Toggenburg, and crossbred goats, each bringing their own personality and strengths to the farm. Alpines are known for their high milk production and lively spirit, while LaManchas are easy to spot (or not!) with their tiny ears and gentle, affectionate nature. Toggenburgs, one of the oldest dairy breeds, offer steady milk yields and sweet dispositions. These goats provide us with rich, creamy milk that we use in our handmade soaps, adding nourishment and a silky lather. By keeping a variety of breeds, we celebrate the diversity and resilience of small-scale dairy farming while giving each animal a life rooted in care, comfort, and purpose.
Our Angora goats are the source of the luxurious mohair we hand-harvest and spin right here on the farm. Known for their elegant ringlets and gentle personalities, Angoras produce a silky, lustrous fiber that’s both durable and naturally beautiful. Mohair takes dye brilliantly, adds strength and sheen to yarns, and creates warm, lightweight garments. We raise our goats with care and compassion, ensuring their fiber is not only top quality, but also ethically and sustainably grown—from pasture to finished piece.
We believe that the health of our animals directly influences the quality of the fiber they produce. That’s why we practice holistic, hands-on care for our goats and sheep focusing on nutrition, stress reduction, and natural herd dynamics. When it comes time to shear, we do so gently and respectfully, with the animals standing calmly on the ground rather than being flipped or restrained. This approach keeps their stress low and their trust intact.
We believe good energy flows through every strand of fiber, and by honoring our animals throughout the process, we create wool and mohair that carry the peace and care they were grown with.
